The Current Situation

At this point in time, numerous meeting have been held between the union and the company. UFCW National Director, Michael Fraser has met with both Loblaws Industrial Relations Vice President Roy Conliff and with Loblaws President John Lederer. The company is still insisting that the union ignore the RCSS Agreement that they wanted in the first place. First they want a new agreement and now they don't want to abide by it!

The union has responded in two ways with the Ontario Labour Relations Board. An Unfair Labour Practices complaint has been submitted and a Successor Rights Application is being prepared. If the Successor Rights Application is successful it is likely that the union will ask that the existing agreement continue to apply in the new operation.

Doing what is right does not seem to be a priority with the people at Loblaws. They are intent on watching out for their bottom line at the expense of anyone that may get in the way. In this case, the people in the way are from Strathroy. Is your store next?

Just so that we are clear about this situation - the Strathroy Zehrs store has had the highest sales of all Zehrs stores in its region for the last 3 years in a row. This is not a lame duck store that is losing money!

We are dealing with a company that increasingly shows that it has no dignity, no class and no honour. It is hard to work for such an employer and now it is impossible to trust them.

It's nice to know that fellow employees we don't even know are on our side. It's a stressful situation that I'm sure head office does not give a shit about. I hope that this site might be able to find a way to stop the harassment and destruction that loblaws is putting the employees and their families through in Strathroy,if not for us then the next store.....because they do not plan to stop.
thanks and keep up the good work store 541

Ok, how is this supposed to help the Strathroy situation?

This blog is in poor taste, and is far from anything that would help the Strathroy cause.

If I was upper management, reading this "Loblaws-sucks" page would do little more than infuriate me, and make me even less sympathetic to the peoples who lives are being effected.

You had a really nice idea, but very poor execution.
Why not use your energy for something a little more constructive.

How does one be constructive???
Zehrs was a good company when Zehrs ran it. Demanding but still appreciating their staff. The shift since the new leadership has taken over has been dramatic. We are now in the "take it or leave it" stage of the company. What is to come, nobody really knows.

Clayton: I would like the names & addresses of the Loblaw company executives and directors; I would like to send them a letter.

I CAN APPRECIATE WHAT PEOPLE ARE FEELING, BUT TO TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION, TIMES CHANGE, AND WE ALL HAVE TO ACCEPT THE CHANGES WETHER WE LIKE OR DISLIKE. sOMETIMES CHANGE CAN BE GOOD. INSTEAD OF BICKERING ACCEPT THE CHANGE, ADJUST(ITS NOT EASY), BUT IF THIS NEGATIVE OUTLOOK CONTINUES, IT WILL RUB OFF ON EVERYONE AND THE WORK PLACE WILL BE A HASTEY PLACE TO WORK. WOULD YOU RATHER HAVE A JOB, OR BE MISERABLE?
